With the release of the Professional Development Guide April 16, the Air Force is combining two publications, the Promotion Fitness Examination and the U.S. Air Force Supervisory Examination study guides, to consolidate resources for Airmen.

According to the April 11 edition of the Airman's Roll Call, this was done to make study material for Weighted Airman Promotion System testing better, and for use as a reliable day-to-day reference.

Now, as with the PFE and USAFSE, the primary purpose of the PDG is as a study guide for promotion testing.

"I tell everyone that's testing for promotion to put their face in that book," said Chief Master Sgt. Jeannie McLean, 82nd Training Wing command chief. "You're not going to get promoted with out studying that book."

The first group to test from the new guide will be senior master sergeants beginning in September.

The PDG has numerous aids to help those studying, including a chapter on study techniques - which just so happens to be chapter one.

Also, an electronic version is available online at https://www.omsq.af.mil/PD. In the future, this site will include MP3 files involving the PDG available for download.

In many ways, referring to it now as a desktop reference is only formalizing a long-time practice. While the PFE and USAFSE have been considered primarily testing material, noncommissioned officers across the Air Force used it to help them find a reference.

"It's a starting place for Air Force information," Chief McLean said. "It's always been a desktop reference, now they're just saying it."

This may be the newest version of the WAPS testing guide, but feedback and suggestions are always welcome for the next edition. They can be submitted to pfesg@randolph.af.mil.

Team Sheppard members interested in acquiring their copy of the PDG should contact their unit's commander support staff to learn how it is being disseminated.
