Recycling program set to get underway in housing areas Published April 12, 2007 By GMH Military Housing SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The long awaited recycling program is finally here, just in time for recycling week. The City of Wichita Falls is in the process of distributing organic recycling carts to each home within Wherry, Bunker Hill and Capehart housing areas. These containers are for organic recyclables only, such as grass, leaves, twigs, paper and cardboard. The carts are to be placed out at the curb for collection on Wednesdays, set in the street, backed up against the curb, with the handle facing away from the street. In the future, on trash normal collection days, residents need to place their normal trash cart out on the street in the same fashion as the recyclable carts. This change will assist the landscaping company in mowing lawns without obstruction. Don't forget to remove your recyclable and trash carts back from the street on the same day of collection. The non-organic recycling program is also scheduled to commence soon. GMH has ordered three trailers for this purpose and will be located within each of the three family housing areas. The locations will be announced when the trailers arrive. The anticipated arrival of the trailers is within the next 30 days. Each trailer will have divided sections for the separation of different types of recyclables. The trailers will be emptied on a regular basis.
