The 882nd Training Support Squadron was named the Air Education and Training Command's Training Support Squadron of the Year for 2006.

"It was a very proud moment for me, and a great accomplishment for our people. It's good to see the squadron get the recognition they deserve," said Lt. Col. Richard Terry, commander of the 882nd TRSS.

General Devereaux learned of the win while attending the AETC Commanders' Conference at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. There, AETC Commander Gen. William R. Looney III presented the award, and General Devereaux accepted it on the 882nd TRSSs behalf.

Once informed of the win, Colonel Terry went around his squadron to personally inform and congratulate his team. Though most, according to the colonel, were elated to have their work recognized, some wanted a bit more.

"All some of them wanted to know was if they'll get time off for this," Colonel Terry laughed again - though he didn't reject the possibility.

The main objective of the 882nd TRSS is to assist the 882nd TRG with schooling Sheppard's medical Airmen-in-Training. The 882 TRSS provides support in the form of functional manpower, logistics, finances, facility management, information systems and military training leaders, among many other services.

Among the accomplishments that earned 882nd TRSS the win: its across-the-board "outstanding" ratings during the 2006 Training Standardization and Evaluation Visit; its "excellent" rating during the 2006 Operational Readiness Inspection; and its record for zero write-ups on the Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment and Management Program two years in a row.
