DAR honors Sheppard military technical instructors

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Four Sheppard Airmen were recognized March 24 during the local Major Francis Grice Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution annual luncheon at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

Maj. Wanda Parham-Bruce of the 383rd Training Squadron, Master Sgt. David Davis of the 383rd TRS, Tech. Sgt. Randal Pionek of the 372nd TRS and Staff Sgt. David Bard of the 363rd TRS were honored for their performance and dedication as instructors in their respective squadrons.

Sergeant Davis, who has won awards at various levels, said this one is unique and reflects the relationship between Sheppard and the surrounding communities.

"We are recognized at the unit and base level, but in my 22 years and nine assignments in the military," he said, "I have never seen the community embrace us in this way. It really is an honor."

The awards marked the 10th year the group has recognized Sheppard instructors. Susan MacRae of Wichita Falls has spearheaded the military award segment of the chapter's luncheon for the past decade.

Joy Hagge, the vice regent for the state-level program in Texas, said the purpose of recognizing military instructors represents the organization's desire to give back to the men and women serving at Sheppard.
