ENJJPT Players open play to lots of laughs

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Actors playing actors, who are playing actors, may seem like a confusing situation. But fortunately, the ENJJPT Players pulled it off March 21 during the opening night of their play "Noises Off," written by Michael Frayn.

The three-act play follows an acting troupe through their dress rehearsal prior to opening night, backstage during a performance mid-tour and finally, shows their last show of the tour.

Each scene is funnier than the one before with giggles from the audience during Act 1, laughing-out-loud at the outrageous physical comedy in Act 2 and practically falling out of their seats with laughter in the final act.

The play can be seen at the community center March 22-24 at 7:30 p.m.

All of this fun isn't just for the audience's enjoyment though, as the ENJJPT Players will also donate all proceeds to local charities. This year the majority will be going to Inter-Faith Ministries with the remainder going to a local animal shelter.

The actors, all from the Euro-Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training Program or their dependents, provided the set, costumes and props, in an effort to ensure the profits went entirely to charitable organizations. Last year's play "You Can't Take it with You," raised over $5,100.

From the reactions of the opening-night audience, the actors initial goals have already been met.

"The ultimate payoff (for an actor) is the audience," said Germany Navy Lt. Commander Peter Schroth, assistant German senior national representative, who in addition to producing the play also stars in the role of Selsdon Mowbray. "They show their respect by liking it and laughing at it."

The play was directed by Dr. Arvilla Taylor and stars Ina Schroth as Dotty Otley/Mrs. Clackett; Col. Jeffery Kendall, 80th Flying Training Wing commander as Lloyd Dallas; German Air Force Capt. Claas Bößer, an instructor pilot with the 89th Flying Training Squadron as Garry Lejeune/Roger Tramplemain; Caroline Houtsma as Brooke Aston/Vicki; Kirsten Roscher as Poppy Norton-Taylor; Italian Air Force Lt. Col. Davide Re, director of operations for the 90th FTS as Frederick Fellowes/Phillip Brent; Anja Seliger as Belinda Blair/Flavia Brent; Italian Air Force Lt. Col. Gianni Spaziani, Italian senior national representative as Tim Allgood and Commander Peter Schroth as Selsdon Mowbray.
