The 82nd Civil Engineering Squadron and the Delta Company, 264th Medical Battalion faced off in one of the closest games of the season at the intramural basketball championships March 5.

The teams were neck-and-neck for the majority of the match up, but the 82nd CES edged past the Delta 264th, to win their third intramural basketball championship in a row, 52-50.

Taking an early lead, the 82nd CES looked to have an easy game ahead of them until the Delta 364th closed the gap 10 minutes into the game.

"We started out good," said the 82nd CES coach Justin Ward. "But then they came right back at us; we stayed in the game and didn't let it get to us though."

From then on, it was nothing but back-and-forth action as each matched the other almost point-for-point.

The teams went into half-time tied, 28-28. The action only got more fast-paced as the second half flew by in a haze of three-pointers and free-throws.

The Delta 264th's last-ditch effort to win the game came with .008 seconds frozen on the clock when a team member threw the ball across the court, missing members of both teams.

The crowd was in an uproar as the referees called for the clock to be reset at .008 because the ball never actually entered play.

Once again going for the win, instead of a tie, the Delta 264th hurled the ball again. Unfortunately, the results were similar to the first attempt and the 82nd CES kept the lead and sealed the championship.

The team's lead-scorers, Delta 264th player Adrian Mosley and 82nd CES player Peter Tabor continued the mirroring trend with 21 points each.
