2nd AF command chief visits Sheppard Published Feb. 20, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Jacob Corbin 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Chief Master Sgt. Jimmy Kelly Jr. didn't intend to spend his birthday at Sheppard Feb. 16. But, Sheppard personnel gave him their own type of birthday present with a tour of the Air Force's largest technical training base. Chief Kelly, the 2nd Air Force command chief, made his first official visit to Sheppard, along with 2nd AF Commander Maj. Gen. Mike Gould, to attend the 82nd Training Wing's Annual Award Banquet. He also took the time to learn and witness what Sheppard is about. Stops during the chief's visit included new Airmen-in-training dorms, the F-22 maintenance facility and the wing safety office. "My sense is that morale here on Sheppard is high," Chief Kelly said. "People here have a positive attitude. They know their missions, they know what their jobs are and they're proud of what they're doing." He added that what he perceived Sheppard personnel to be is a direct reflection of base leadership. The chief's tour of Sheppard started early Feb. 16 when he attended the base's National Prayer Breakfast. Chief Master Sgt. Jeannie McLean, 82nd TRW command chief wasn't about to let Chief Kelly get out of the breakfast without a surprise when she informed the audience it was the chief's birthday. Those in attendance then offered up their own rendition of "Happy Birthday."
