Army students school 365th TRS, 77-73 Published Feb. 8, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Tonnette Thompson 82nd Training Wing, Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Delta 264th Medical Battalion taught some of Sheppard's permanent party a lesson in perseverance during an intramural basketball game Feb. 7, outlasting the 365th Training Squadron 77-73. The 365th TRS kept the 264th on their toes, grabbing the first basket of the game and holding onto the lead until well into the second half. But in the last five minutes of the game, the 264th scrambled to tie the score and take a lead that never exceeded four points. In the end, that four points was all they needed. 365th TRS player Brett Wilburn nailed a 3-point basket to start the game, establishing a lead his team would hold for most of the game. With high scorers Shawn Cleophas and Arthur Calloway, the 365th TRS widened the first half scoring gap by as much as nine points. But the 264th stayed in the game, mostly because of players like Adrian Williams, Jerrandi Moore and particularly Adrian Moseley, whose steady stream of all-net 3-point shots prompted coach Cleophas to shout at his teammates, "Play it tight around 34," Moseley's jersey number. Ten seconds before the halftime buzzer, 365th TRS player Cory Baker sunk a 3-point basket, and his team went into the second half leading 43-36. The second half for the 365th TRS consisted of Calloway more than pulling his weight; his layups and free throws took them as far as a 51-36 lead early in the half. Cleophas spent most of the second half on the bench, as did Wilburn due to an injury. 365th TRS player James Ellis helped fill the scoring gap, with Jeffrey Kelly pitching in. On the 264th side, Moseley also kept his team afloat, though he had more help from Moore, Williams, John Hanible and John Hensley. Together, they slowly closed the gap until the teams were finally tied at 60 points with 4:50 on the clock. The game remained close from there. Every basket 365th TRS made was soon answered by the 264th, even tying the score again at 65 points with only 2 ½ minutes left in the game. Williams broke the tie with a layup, and the 264th held onto their thin lead, scoring another 10 points worth of baskets. Calloway sunk a layup and a free throw while Ellis hit two free throws. Ellis even managed a 3-pointer with just 15 seconds on the clock, but in the end it wasn't enough. "It took teamwork to win the game," Moseley said, with his teammates laughing beside him, fully aware that Moseley practically carried his team throughout the game. "... and communication made all the difference," he finished, smiling with them.
