As the summer rotation of group and squadron commanders concludes, the Air Force announced its selection of the next wing commander for Sheppard.

Brig. Gen. Richard T. Devereaux, the Director of Regional Affairs at the Office of the Deputy Undersecretary of the Air Force for International Affairs, will take over the 82nd Training Wing Aug. 25 at 8 a.m.

General Devereaux is a 28-year veteran of the Air Force, beginning his career as an undergraduate pilot training student in 1978. He is a command pilot with more than 3,800 flying hours in the T-37, C-5 and KC-135.

The general was an honor graduate from the Air Force Academy in 1978 and was named a distinguished graduate from three other military-related courses.

General Whitmore was selected to serve as the Director of Operations and Support Integration, Warfighting Integration and Chief Information Officer at the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force at the Pentagon. The general saw Sheppard through perhaps its most rewarding time in 2005 when the base took in more than 1,000 displaced Airmen after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast and Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.
