Airman 1st Class Catherine Baron, 82nd Medical Support Squadron radiology technician and native of St. Louis, has been in the Air Force for a year and a half and is the commander's Wingman of Choice at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, for the week of Nov. 3-9, 2015. Baron is responsible for aiding physicians using x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, multidetector CT scans, nuclear medicine, digital mammography and deductive skills.

"I am blessed to have an amazing husband and family," Baron said. "My husband and I have been married two years and I couldn't imagine this journey without him by my side. My family is very important to me. I have incredible parents and four brothers as well as three sisters. Two of my brothers are also proud to serve; one is in the Marines and the other is in the Navy."

"The things that inspire me have always been the people around me that I care about as well as myself," Baron continued. "I strive to make myself better to be the best wife, wingman, daughter, sister, and friend. I don't like living with regret, so if I set my sites on something, then I try everything I can to accomplish it."

Baron has accomplished her bachelor's degree from St. Louis University in Health Information Management, with a minor in Spanish. She aims to achieve Senior Airman Bellow-the-Zone, pass her Radiology Tech Registry exam, travel the world, have a home on a lake or the ocean and start working on obtaining her Master's degree. She also has considered the possibility of receiving a commission in the Air Force.

Baron said her decision to join the Air Force was one of her greatest achievements.

Commander's Comments:

"Airman 1st Class Baron has mentored peers and coworkers as well as projecting a phenomenal work ethic for all members to emulate," said Lt. Col. Charles Marek, 82nd MDSS commander. "Since her arrival to Sheppard, she has hit the ground running, tightening up processes within her duty section, and will be completing her five volumes of CDCs [Career Development Course] and End of Course test within six weeks. She has also requested admission to Wayland Baptist to begin working towards her Master of Business Administration degree. Baron is a shining example of the outstanding Airman that continue to join our Air Force."
