Davis named 'Support Airman of the Week' Published Sept. 30, 2015 By Staff Reports 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Senior Airman Joshua Davis, 80th Operations Support Squadron aircrew flight equipment journeyman and native of West Frankfort, Ill., has been in the Air Force for three and a half years and is the Support Airman of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 2015. Davis is responsible for maintaining equipment essential to aircraft pilot's life support systems. How he impacts the training mission: "Senior Airman Davis functions as an aircrew flight equipment technician," said Tech. Sgt. Sadiq Stevens, Davis's supervisor. "He ensures proper outfitting, upkeep and serviceability of the equipment worn by the flight crews at ENJJPT [Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program]. He performs inspections and maintenance on personnel harnesses, helmets, oxygen masks, anti-g suits and survival kits, and he ensures daily equipment inspections comply with all applicable technical orders and Air Force instructions. He also assists with physiological incident investigations and aids Search and Rescue operations in the event of emergency locator beacon activations. "I was born and raised in the small town of West Frankfort, Illinois where I graduated high school in 2010," said Davis. "Upon graduation, I was stationed at Osan Air Base, Korea, and followed on to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, where I met my wife, Amanda, in 2013. Over the past year, I've had several abnormal medical issues. After piecing together the clues, Sheppard's medical team - most notably, Captain Kristina Zuccarelli - identified the need for emergency heart surgery. The team's rapid response and coordination to get me to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for surgery saved my life. Following my recovery, I have been able to enjoy spending time with my wife and newborn baby girl and continuing my service in the Air Force."
