Volunteers Victim Advocates for Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Published Oct. 23, 2014 By Tony Wyatt Sexual Assault Response Coordinator SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Sheppard Sexual Assault Prevention and Response team is looking for people to become Volunteer Victim Advocates. Volunteer Victim Advocates are critical to the success of the SAPR program. Individuals selected to become a VVA will receive 40-hours of formal academic training, National Organization of Victim Assistance certification, and other on-going training and education that promotes their success. Anyone interested in becoming a VVA should contact the SAPR team at 676-0365, or stop by their office at building 1624. There is an application process required. Application materials can be obtained from the SAPR Team. The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator must receive complete applications no later than October 31, 2014. Mandatory training for accepted applicants will take place December 1 - 5, 2014. Some restrictions prevent people in certain career fields from serving as VVAs due to potential conflicts of interest. Personnel assigned to the following agencies may not serve as VVAs: 1. Military Treatment Facility, with whom assault victims may come in contact 2. Office of the Staff Judge Advocate 3. Office of the Wing Chaplain 4. Law enforcement or investigations 5. Equal Opportunity 6. Inspector General
