The Combined Federal Campaign begins on base Sept. 17, 2014, the Sheppard Club will be hosting a kick-off breakfast at 7 a.m.

According to the official website, the CFC mission is to "promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all."

The campaign effort aims to involve as many federal employees as possible on base.

"It's our one chance in a year for military, civilians and the DOD to show generosity in not just supporting military operations, but in supporting Americans in need," said 2nd Lt. Catherine Cassleman, 82nd Force Support Squadron readiness officer.

As stated by the CFC, it is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity with almost 200 campaigns. Pledges made by federal, civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits on a global basis.

"By supporting Americans in need we show the connection we have with Americans in every walk of life, not just inside our military community," Cassleman said.

Katrina Farmer, American Red Cross of North Central Texas executive director, is thankful for the help that the CFC contributes to their mission.

As reported by the official CFC website, the American Red Cross was one of the first participants during the CFC's official inception.

"If we don't have the funds we can't make it work...if the American Red Cross wasn't there, people's suffering would be extended...without the backing of the American people there wouldn't be a mission," Farmer stated.

As a charity organization that has provided military support and emergency communications for service members and their families, Farmer appreciates the help her organization has received from Sheppard.

"Sheppard Air Force Base is very supportive, you guys are there for us and we're there for you," she said.
