As the nation remembers the tragedy that shook the world 13-years years ago, the base is hosting a ceremony to honor those who perished during the 9/11 attacks.

Everyone with base access is invited to the 9/11 memorial ceremony to pay their respects at 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at the 82nd Training Wing headquarters building flag pole.

"This is for the members of the base that might not be able to attend the memorial at ground zero in New York City," said Master Sgt. Seth Moening, 366th Training Squadron course writer. "They can come here to pay their respects to those who died in the 9/11 attacks."

The service will begin with observing six moments of silence. The moments of silence will coincide with the moments of silence being held at ground zero. Each moment signifies an event on that fateful day.
A moment of silence will be observed for each tower that was struck, the pentagon being struck, the collapse of each tower and the flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania.

"After the sixth moment of silence, we will have members of team Sheppard read the 2,977 names of those who were lost that day due to the attacks," Meoning said.

The memorial ceremony officially concludes around noon with the completion of the names read.
