Ripped up tiles and wall debris occupied the dust-filled Sheppard Club while Airmen started the renovation project to the recreational area July 9, 2014 as part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the space.

Long considered by many permanent party service members to be a place to kick back and relax, the club is undergoing an overhaul to raise base morale.

"This project is a base initiative comprised of members across Team Sheppard," said Brig. Gen. Scott Kindsvater, 82nd Training Wing base commander. "I'm really inspired by the teamwork being displayed. We look forward to our Airmen enjoying the improved facility once the renovations are fully complete."

"Hangar 1" Formerly Rustlers, will have a sports lounge atmosphere. Multiple 55-inch televisions will be packed into this new facility. Hangar 1 will have a sports package for viewing events, upgraded high speed Wi-Fi internet and gaming systems with paid monthly online gaming access.

If that isn't enough, this area will have league approved dart boards, an air hockey table and foosball. The room will have a 110-inch projection screen with surround sound and theater seating to enjoy a big game, fight or movie.

With many improvements to still be done, uniformed Airmen working within the club, continued to pound hammers, rip tile and lug furniture, all in an effort to create a legacy for their fellow service members, that they themselves might never enjoy.

To get involved just head over to the club in your spare time, there is plenty of work for all.
