AMMO Airman achieves perfection Published May 21, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Robert L. McIlrath 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Eagerness to learn and hard work paid off for an Airman as he received the ACE award for making perfect scores in the munitions systems course. Airman 1st Class Kenneth Horlback, 363rd Training Squadron graduate, received the ACE award during graduation May 21, 2014, at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. The ACE award is attained by students who achieve a 100 percent average throughout each block of testing. The munitions systems course consists of six testable blocks and spans seven weeks. Horlback didn't expect to ace the course at first, but when he continued to succeed as the course progressed, his dream started to become a reality. "I thought it was a pretty far-fetched thing to get," Horlback said. "To not miss a single question on any of the tests seemed unreal." Erik Keefner, 363rd TRS instructor, knew from the beginning Horlback was bringing everything he had to the classroom, every day. Keefner has been an instructor for six years and finally taught his first student to achieve the ACE award. "You can tell the difference between students who are engaged and those who aren't," Keefner said. "Horlback was hard charged and engaged the entire time." Horlback credits his instructor in earning the award. "My instructor contributed greatly to me earning the ACE," Horlback said. "His drawings and way of teaching helped me remember information during the tests." As Horlback prepares to move on to his next assignment at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., he is eager to get back to doing what he loves. "I'm looking forward to actually getting to build bombs every day," he said.
