SARC does partnership with local cab company Published Jan. 17, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Jelani Gibson 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office has partnered with local cab companies to display stickers within their cabs in order to combat and show solidarity on sexual assault within the Air Force. Through the Wichita Star and Skylark cab companies, the stickers are meant to be implemented as an extra avenue of contact with Airmen who need to reach out. "Our Airmen use these taxis a lot," said Capt. Angela Naval, 82nd Training Wing deputy sexual assault and response coordinator. "It's an additional way for us to get our face out there to Airmen." While the stickers primarily focus on sexual assault within the military, Naval approaches the problem as something that is a widespread issue in society as a whole. With the cab companies displaying an avenue to approach sexual assault she believes the act itself also underscores a positive relationship with the surrounding community of Wichita Falls, Texas. "The military is a reflection of their population," she said. "It's a very good indication that there is a good partnership with the community and everybody realizes its importance." While preventing and responding to sexual assault is geared to the Airmen who have been directly targeted, Naval notes that it can affect the entire spectrum of the Air Force environment. "It changes not just the victim, but everyone who has had contact with them," she said. "Healing them, helping them through it, referring them to the right services and helping them get through what happened can make them be better people in society and continue to contribute to the mission." When it comes to the Air Force mission, Naval considers the Airmen as a priority that need to be invested in. "Our Airmen are one of our most valuable resources in the military," she said. "They are the ones that make things happen."
