ADAPT chief is selected as commander's wingman of choice Published Nov. 21, 2013 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Capt. Mark Stonger, 82nd Medical Group Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT) program element chief, from Kansas City, Mo., who has one year on Sheppard, has been selected as the commander's wingman of choice. He is inspired by his family and helping others. The 82nd Training Wing "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award program is the commander's way of acknowledging Airmen for a job well done and to recognize Airmen who exemplify the Air Force core values. Criteria for consideration include outstanding duty performance, community involvement and exemplary leadership. Education: Sam Houston State University Huntsville, Texas - Doctor of Psychology Future goals: I want to become a pilot (both fixed and rotary wing), increase my world travels and continue my personal and professional education. Greatest accomplishment: Receiving my doctorate. Hobbies, off-duty interests: I enjoy college football and basketball, military history and fiction, and trivia contests. Why is this person the Wingman of Choice? Stonger hit the ground running since he arrived at Sheppard. After arriving from his residency at Wilford Hall, Stonger quickly tested for and received his professional licensure. Once he was licensed, Stonger stepped up to run the busiest ADAPT clinic in the Air Force. In addition to mastering his new leadership role, Stonger launched an innovative alcohol misuse reduction initiative using an evidence-based social norms approach.
