Through academic excellence and focus, a hydraulics systems apprentice student at the 364th Training Squadron here has achieved the ACE award after graduating Oct. 30.

The ACE award, given for maintaining a 100 percent average throughout each block test, was earned by Tech. Sgt. Dustin Wright, a hydraulic systems specialist with the Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing based in Portland.

"It's been a good experience," Wright said. "I've learned a lot."

Wright stayed motivated throughout the course and drove himself to succeed so he could set an example for others.

"I've always taken a lot of pride in what I do," he said. "I really enjoy it."

As a non commissioned officer, he oftentimes served in a mentor capacity to the other students, many of whom were junior enlisted Airmen new to the Air Force.

"I hope that I've had a positive influence on tech schoolers here and gave them a positive outlook on the maintenance field," Wright said.

Staff Sgt. Tami Osolin, a 364th Training Squadron hydraulic systems instructor, knew Wright wanted to set the bar high for himself the moment he came in her classroom, but also wanted to hold herself to a high standard as well.

"I volunteered for this job and it's important for me to send quality products into the Air Force," she said.

"You enjoy teaching students like that."

With Wright winning the ACE award, Osolin wants his performance to set a precedent of excellence for other pupils as well.

"It gives other classes something to strive for, especially newer students," she said.

As Wright prepares to return to Oregon, he echoes a sentiment of enthusiasm for the job he performs.

"I love it," he said. "Every time we get a bird off the ground it's a really good feeling."
