Energy Action Month wraps up; trainees get tips on conservation Published Oct. 31, 2013 By Sheppard Energy Team 82nd Civil Engineering Squadron/DS2 SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Airmen-in-Training here got the chance to learn more about Energy Action Month during a visit to the Mesquite Dining Faciltiy Oct. 31 by the Sheppard Energy Team. The goal of the visit, which wrapped up the month-long campaign, was to spread the message about the importance of conserving energy. During the lunch hour visit, the Energy Team handed out energy-related literature and had the chance to focus on face to face interaction with the base's student population. "I am Air Force Energy", the theme for this year's campaign, was voiced and promoted during the visit. "Culture change is a key component in the overall effort, to meet energy goals and raise awareness on the installation," said Eddie Jordan, Sheppard's Energy Manager. Team Sheppard has been proactive about promoting Energy Action throughout the entire month of October. "This is the way to bring in the new fiscal year," said Paul Woods, Sheppard's Resource Efficiency Manager. "A full month is dedicated to Energy Action." The entire installation has truly embraced this month's theme and overall promotions regarding energy as a whole. "Energy Action is not just a theme," said Sheppard's Energy Construction Inspector Mike Gaffney. "It is a mindset and a way of life to be embraced by all base personnel." Gaffney has been the primary "boots on the ground" inspector for energy construction projects over the past few years. He understands that energy projects can only be as successful--as the inspector that is assigned to the work site. Sheppard has seen an increase in energy projects and funding over the past few years. Moreover, the base has received over $12M in energy focus funds since the beginning of the 'NRG' program in 2009.
