Airmen far and wide are receiving care in more accessible ways thanks to the health care app known as "MiCare."

MiCare, a system of communication meant for doctors and patients, is meant to streamline the process of correspondence for minimal treatment that may not necessarily warrant an appointment.

"This is a method that speeds things up faster, it's for routine issues," said Jeffrey Cahill, 82nd Medical Group practice manager. "It's saving the patients and us time."

With the app, patients are also capable of viewing info on how to lead healthy lifestyles and treat common illnesses they may be able to handle with minimal assistance.

For Tech. Sgt. Shane Anderson, a 362nd Training Squadron crew chief aircraft instructor, the app helps her as a mother and as an Airman.

"I have an account set up for myself and my son," she said. "I absolutely love it."

With the electronic capability of the application, messages can be viewed more instantaneously compared to a phone call or line with wait times.

"The availability of the info makes it very helpful," Anderson said. "Every time I receive a message they're quick to respond."

With the MiCare app serving Airmen digitally, it is meant to become more accessible to those who want a better way of corresponding with their health care providers, while providing a more secure route than unencrypted servers or emails with potentially sensitive information.

"It seems to be working very well," Cahill said. "You have more contact and nothing gets lost in transmission."
