Support Agreement Manager is commander's "Wingman of Choice" Published Oct. 10, 2013 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Barbara Ashby, an 82nd Logistics Readiness Squadron support agreement manager from Amarillo, Texas, was selected as the commander's wingman of choice. Having served Sheppard for over 29 years, she is inspired by her faith and belief in overcoming adversity. The 82nd Training Wing "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award program is the commander's way of acknowledging Airmen for a job well done and to recognize Airmen who exemplify the Air Force core values. Criteria for consideration include outstanding duty performance, community involvement and exemplary leadership. Family: Husband/Best Friend: Timothy Ashby. Daughters: Jennifer Whaley, Rebecca Montgomery, and Jacquie McGilvray. Son: Keith Hedges and 12 grandchildren. Future goals: To retire and enjoy my time with my church, best friend and grandchildren. Greatest accomplishment: Continuing to maintain my faith in God through the ups and downs of life. Hobbies, off-duty interests: Being actively involved with my church. When time permits, I love to travel with my husband and spend time with my grandchildren. Why is this person the Wingman of Choice? Ashby manages the largest support agreement program in Air Education and Training Command. These agreements ensure that our Airmen are being taken care of around the world and include over $20.5 million in reimbursements. The complexity and fortitude to work with our fellow services and numerous DoD agencies to come to an agreement, is simply amazing. Commander's name and comments: Maj. Samuel Payne No matter the obstacle, Ashby accepts each challenge with incredible energy and tenacity. She is known for her wonderful smile and kind words which reverberate throughout the squadron and to each person she touches on a daily basis. Even though she plans on retiring soon, she continues to diligently train and pass on her expertise in an area that is extremely important to the success of Sheppard's mission.
