82 MSG, 80 FTW score quarterly recycling awards Published Aug. 12, 2013 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 82nd Mission Support Group and the 80th Flying Training Wing were named Team Sheppard's FY '13 3rd quarter Recycling Incentive Award winners during the base's quarterly Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Council meeting Aug 8. The award, which is broken down into separate categories for permanent party and students, is based on the total amount of recyclable material reported to the environmental flight by the unit's recycling monitors. The final numbers are calculated on a per capita basis to account for unit size differences. This quarter, the 82nd MSG recycled a total of 57,750 pounds to claim the permanent party title, while the 80th FTW captured the student category, bringing in 12,175 pounds worth of recyclables. Per capita, the 80th FTW amount equaled 15.9 pounds per person, while the 82nd MSG came in at 99.0 pounds per person. Danny Dabbs accepted the award on behalf of the student winners from the 80th FTW. Col. William Peterson, 82nd MSG commander, accepted the award on behalf of his group. The goal of the awards is to help highlight awareness of the base recycling program and provide an incentive for groups to recycle. The $1,000 prize in each category can be used by commanders for quality of life programs or can be donated to the base recycling program.
