AF Logistics Board meets at Sheppard Published Feb. 10, 2016 By James Rumfelt 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Air Force Logistics Board, consisting of 15 General Officers and Senior Executive Service members, met here this week to chart the future for the 180,000-member Air Force logistics community. The $30 billion logistics enterprise affects every aspect of the Air Force mission, including procurement, maintenance, transportation, personnel and facilities. “We’ve concentrated this week on how to do the best for our people,” said Lt. Gen. John B. Cooper, Air Force deputy chief of staff for logistics, engineering and force protection. “Since all our uniformed logisticians are trained here at Sheppard, it made sense to have that discussion here.” On the docket for the board were items like constructing a strategic master plan for logistics – including how to best use human capital – and how to mentor logistics personnel and shape their careers to maximize professional and personal development. The end goal, according to Cooper, is to ensure an Airman graduating at Sheppard today can become the best chief master sergeant they can be in 2030. Cooper said meeting in an environment where the board could meet and interact with the youngest logistics Airmen was a boost for the group. “All us old guys are just maintainers and loggies at heart, and we miss connecting with these young Airmen,” he said, “so it’s been great to have a chance to do that.” The board meets in person twice a year.
