Mrs. Mary Otto has been named the Sheppard AFB Tax Center volunteer of the week for the week of March 14-18, 2016.  A network guru out of the 82 TRW/CS, Mrs. Otto linked the Tax Center’s phone system to allow for more efficient service to callers.  Beyond being a reliable volunteer who is one of the top tax preparers this year, the tax center depends on her experience to assist newer volunteers with tough tax issues.  Sheppard Tax Center is lucky to have her talented contribution again this year and her contributions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks to Mrs. Otto, the tax center is better able to service our airmen and local community better.

Q & A with Mrs. Mary Otto:

  1. What inspired you to volunteer for the tax center?

I helped with the Tax program ever since I was on active duty, and have stayed ever since. The gratifying feeling of helping people has kept me coming back for 16 years.

  2. What do you enjoy the most about volunteering?

I love meeting all the different types of people and hearing all of their interesting stories. It feels great to be able to help out our SAFB community and to provide them tax assistance.

  3. Do you have any advice for those thinking about volunteering?

I would challenge everybody to come volunteer in order to learn more about taxes and the laws. Taxes are important and aren’t going away any time soon. It really is fun once you start to understand the ins and outs of taxes.  But don’t be afraid to make the first step and sign up to volunteer. The SAFB community needs your help!
