This month the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator Office began conducting Bystander Intervention Training, a new training program to replace the former annual Sexual Assault Response Coordinator training.

The idea of becoming an "active bystander" is not something new, but rather a return to the old days. In other words, don't stand by and watch a potential dangerous situation unfold. Step in and intervene.

The purpose of this class is to teach a "prevention" tool that can be used by all Sheppard military members, unit commanders and civilian employees who supervise military personnel.

While the focus is on empowering and educating bystanders to get involved, it's also about creating a secure climate. This raises the question, "who is responsible for the climate of a unit?" The answer is we all are.
