I know you are looking forward to a great Fourth of July weekend--perhaps one of our finest American traditions. What better way to celebrate the birthday of our democracy than by exercising the very freedoms that we have sworn to defend? As you spend time with friends and families this weekend, take a moment to contemplate and cherish your freedoms, and the Constitution which articulates and the legal foundation of what it means to be an American. And remember too, and be proud of, your United States Air Force, who along with our NATO allies, is an integral part of the joint team which safeguards our democracy and free nations everywhere.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all out here on the 4th for Tops In Blue and our big fireworks display. Whatever you do this weekend, please keep safety in the forefront of your minds. Sadly, past history tell us that over 150 Americans will die in motor vehicle accidents on the Fourth of July--on one day! That means, on average, as you are celebrating the 4th with friends and family, an American is dying every 10 minutes on our highways.

Please don't let this happen to you or one of your family members this weekend. If you're travelling, be well rested beforehand. Ensure everyone in your vehicle is buckled up. Don't drive too fast for conditions. And please, please, don't drink with car keys in your pocket or purse.

I'm already looking forward to sending out the e-mail on Tuesday morning saying we all made it back safe. Happy 4th!
