One of my priorities for Sheppard is that we continue to maintain a "safe, secure and supportive" environment for our people and their families - "the three S's."

In the "supportive" area, Feb. 16 is shaping up to be a big day for Team Sheppard that I would encourage you all to participate in.

We've got a great "doubleheader" planned for the Feb. 16. Chap. (Maj. Gen.) Charles Baldwin, the USAF's Chief of Chaplains, will be the guest speaker at our National Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Sheppard Club. Chap. Baldwin has literally hundreds of invitations to speak at prayer breakfasts all over the world - we're very fortunate that he chose Sheppard and reaffirmed our place as "training central" for the USAF.

I've heard him speak several times during my career and I promise that if you attend, you won't be disappointed. The cost of the breakfast is only $5 per person (chapel is picking up part of the cost) and all Sheppard personnel are invited. Please contact your unit POC if you'd like to attend.

On the evening of Feb. 16, we'll host our 82nd Training Wing Annual Awards Banquet downtown at the MPEC, beginning at 6 p.m. The committee has worked very hard to put together a first-class, entertaining evening to honor the best and the brightest from the wing in 10 categories ranging from Airman to Senior Civilian. The dinner will be only $20 per person and will include a great meal, mementos, musical entertainment and stellar awards presentation.

Guest speaker for the evening is Maj. Gen. Mike Gould, our 2nd Air Force commander. As most of you know, General Gould has oversight responsibility for all USAF Basic and Technical Training, including the units at Lackland, Keesler, Sheppard, Goodfellow and Vandenberg Air Force bases. General and Mrs. Gould are delighted to be included in our banquet and are looking for to visiting and touring Sheppard. You can purchase tickets now for the banquet from your unit POC.

Please mark these two events on your calendar. We want to pack the house for each. Get your tickets early so you don't miss out - it'll be a great, "supportive" day for Team Sheppard!
