It is that time of the year again, flu season has arrived. Aside from the flu, the common cold is also prevalent due to the dramatic weather changes. There are plenty of tips and remedies to stay healthy, and your Sheppard Air Force Base public health office wants you to remember these important steps to prevent the spread of illness.

1. Get vaccinated
The flu vaccine is the number one way to prevent the flu. Get vaccinated every year.

2. Wash your hands
Proper hand washing with soap and water is the best way to prevent the spread of disease. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

3. Cover your mouth and nose
Covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing may prevent those around you from getting sick. Always cough into your sleeve or tissue to prevent the spread of germs.

4. Avoid close contact
Keep distance from others who are sick. If you are sick, stay home from work or school to prevent the spread of your illness to others.

5. Clean and Disinfect
Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects when ill, can prevent contamination. Use bleach solutions and products, such as Clorox wipes, to disinfect.

Remember that it is important to get plenty of sleep, remain active, balance your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat well.
