Public Health collected information from Sabra Dipping Company voluntary recalling 30,000 cases of its classic hummus due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development conducted a routine, random sample collection and tested the Classic Hummus of Sabra Dipping Company positive for Listeria monocytogenes on March 30, 2015.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Healthy individuals can also experience symptoms that may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
