Food Recall Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination Published Aug. 25, 2014 By Public Health Flight 82d Aerospace Medicine Squadron SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE TEXAS -- The 82d AMDS Public Health flight received a recall from nSpired Natural Foods, Inc. for the following products: · Arrowhead Mills Peanut Butters · MaraNatha Almond Butters and Peanut Butters · Safeway Open Nature Almond Butter · Trader Joe's Crunchy Raw Almond Butter · Whole Foods 365 Creamy/Crusted/Crunchy Roasted Almond Butter. The Company has received reports of four illnesses associated with these products that may have been potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can cause serious health infections in young children or elderly people, and anyone with a weak immune system. Common symptoms are fever, diarrhea (sometimes may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The infection can also possibly get into the bloodstream that can produce severe illnesses such as endocarditis, arthritis, and arterial infections. This product was sold on Sheppard Air Force Base and has been placed on medical hold: Maranatha Organic Raw Almond Butter UPC 051651092630. Other products recalled were also sold in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, and Dominican Republic. They were also available for purchase online. Consumers do not need to return the product to the store where it was purchased. Instead, consumers are urged to dispose of the recalled product and its container.
