SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Staff Sgt. Alfredo Baking,
362 Training Squadron military training leader and native of North Hollywood,
California, has been in the Air Force for six years and is the MTL of
the week at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, for the week of Feb. 23 – Mar. 1
2016.
Most significant accomplishments:
- Received Junior Military Training Leader of the year for
362nd TRS and 82nd Training Group.
- Enrolled in a Master’s in Finance Program and will
graduate in September of 2016.
Airman’s story:
Baking is a Financial Manager currently assigned to the
362nd TRS Military Training Flight as a MTL at Sheppard. Baking was born in Los
Angeles, California on September 5, 1985. He is married to France Baking and
has a 2-year-old son named Franco.
Upon graduating basic training in October 2009, he
attended Financial Management Technical Training at Keesler Air Force Base, Missouri,
where he was awarded distinguished graduate of the class. After Technical Training,
he received his first assignment to the 56th Comptroller Squadron at
Luke Air Force Base where he worked as a Finance Technician.
In 2009, he received his first achievement medal for outstanding
service during the Air Education and Training Command conference that was held
at San Antonio, Texas. In 2010, he was awarded Airman of the quarter award for
two consecutive quarters. He also was awarded AETC Airman of the Year and was
recognized as a top-performer by the Inspector General.
In 2011, Baking further distinguished himself by joining the
Base Honor Guard where he won the rookie of the month, became a lead trainer
and was nominated as Ceremonial Guardsman of the year. His exceptional
performance also led him to be selected as Senior Airman below-the-zone. In
2012, he attended Airman Leadership School and received his second distinguished
graduate award.
In 2013, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and was
deployed to Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, Africa, where he served as an Army
Finance Liaison and Joint Manning Document Manager for Navy and Marine
personnel. His outstanding performance garnered him a Joint Commendation Medal
and became the first junior enlisted person to earn this award in his
department.
In 2014, Baking was selected to become a Military Training
Leader under the Developmental Special Duty program. He attended training at Lackland Air Force Base
and was then assigned to Sheppard. Since his tenure, he has mentored, trained
and inspired more than 800 Airmen and has impacted their lives in numerous
ways.
His military awards include four Air Force Achievement
Medals, one Joint Commendation Medal, and multiple Airman of the Year awards. He
has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in Finance and recently
received his Community College of the Air Force degree in Financial Management.
He is currently enrolled in a Master’s in Finance program and will graduate in
September as well as receive his second CCAF Degree in Education and Training
Management this year.
