Staff Sgt. Skyler Poole, 82nd Training Wing military training leader and native of Norfolk, Virginia, has been in the Air Force for 10 years and is the MTL of the Week at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, for the week of July 26 – Aug. 1, 2016.

Most significant accomplishments:

“Watching the Airmen under my charge as an NCO at Barksdale Air Force Base win Senior Airman below the zone, Airmen of the quarter, Airmen of the year awards, and team of the quarter awards is one of my most significant accomplishments,” Poole said. “Having more than 25 Airmen be enrolled in college working toward their Community College of the Air Force before my departure to become an MTL is a rarity in my career field.”

Poole also took pride in helping an Airmen’s career by expressing interest in unusual behavior. Instead of pressing forward with standard disciplinary actions for failing five straight room inspections, he asked what was happening in his life and was able to coach him through graduating technical training.

Airman’s story:

“I grew up in Virginia, Wisconsin, Illinois and Tennessee,” Poole said. “I have a strong family with strong moral and ethical values that have guided me throughout my life. I have two amazing children and was lucky enough to find a woman that works just as hard as I do and has the same goals. I enjoy watching sports; LeBron is the King once again, and I am an avid nerd when it comes to technology, it keeps me sane.”

Supervisor’s comments:

“Staff Sergeant Poole is a vital part of the 82nd Training Wing Training Operations Management flight,” said Tech. Sgt. Oscar Santana, assistant flight chief of wing military training support. “He selflessly dedicates himself to the mission on a daily basis. He has revamped eight of the additional duty programs in order to make them more efficient. He is the NCO in charge of the wing special activities team where he leads, inspires and mentors 94 Airmen on a weekly basis. Staff Sergeant Poole is a vital member of the commander’s inspection program as a wing inspection team member where he inspects more than 40 programs across six squadrons ensuring they comply with applicable regulations. Staff Sergeant Poole inspires his coworkers as well as the Airmen he mentors to be the best they can be day in and day out.”
