SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Blue Bell Creameries recently announced a voluntary
recall of Blue Bell Ice Cream with chocolate chip cookie dough, due to the
potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeriosis is a serious infection of Listeria
monocytogenes stemming from consuming contaminated food. Some of the symptoms
that may occur are high fever, severe headaches, stiffness of the neck, nausea,
abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can also cause serious and sometimes
fatal in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune
systems. This infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among
pregnant women.

Public Health confirmed that Sheppard AFB facilities
DO NOT carry these products for sale. There has been NO illnesses reported to
date in connection with this recall.
