SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Nestle USA Inc. has
initiated a recall of Nestle Drumstick Club 16-count Variety Pack and 24-count
Vanilla pack. The recall is due to positive findings of Listeria monocytogenes
on equipment contact surfaces. There have been no positive test results for
Listeria monocytogenes in the Drumstick products themselves and no illnesses
have been reported to date.
When the organism
Listeria monocytogenes contaminates food and is consumed, a serious infection
of Listeriosis is possible. Healthy individuals infected with Listeria may
experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness,
nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, persons with underlying medical
conditions, children, elderly and pregnant women are at a higher risk of
becoming infected and can lead to more severe symptoms.
The product
identification codes can be found on the back of the packages. The two products
recalled have distinct UPC codes, “best before” dates, and production codes.
