SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Dr. Praeger’s Sensible
Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling various not-ready-to-eat frozen products
due to a potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes. The U.S. Food and
Drug Administration has required cooperation for all products that contain
vegetables that are part of the recent CFR Frozen Foods recall. The list of all
Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Food items involved in this recall can be found on the
FDA website using the following link: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm501243.htm.
Listeriosis is a serious
infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium listeria
monocytogenes. The bacteria can live in a processing factory for long periods
and can sometimes contaminate food products. Unlike most bacteria, listeria can
grow and multiply in some refrigerated food items.
Generally, a person with listeriosis
will experience fever, muscle aches, diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
Often, the bacteria spread beyond the gastrointestinal tract. People at risk
for developing a more serious, and potentially fatal, infection include
pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
The FDA has recommended that
consumers not eat these items if they have purchased them and to dispose of the
product, or return to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange. Customers
and consumers with questions should call Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods Consumers
Affairs Hotline at (877) 772-3437 during the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. ET, Monday
– Friday, or email info@drpraegers.com.
