89th Flying Training Squadron: Chambers takes helm
Lieutenant Colonel Rhett Chambers assumes command of the 89th Flying Training Squadron in a ceremony at the 80th Flying Training Wing, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, April 22, 2016. The ceremony represents the first time in the 35-year history of the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program that a Canadian Air Force officer has been appointed to a squadron command position. On 31 Mar 2008, the 89th officially received the first deliveries of the Air Force's newest primary trainer, the T-6A, which replaced the T-37 'Tweet' aircraft. The 89th FTS presently instructs almost 250 ENJJPT pilots annually in primary jet training in the Hawker Beechcraft T-6A "Texan II." The ENJJPT Program has produced over 7,100 pilots for the NATO alliance. Lt. Col. Chambers is a combat pilot with 4,000 flying hours, including 330 amassed during 75 combat missions in Afghanistan.
