  • OSS controller earns prestigious aviation safety award

    A quick decision by David Bowles, an 80th Operations Support Squadron Radar Approach Control civilian, prevented a potential mid-air collision of two Air Force aircraft on Aug. 1, 2019, becoming the first controller in Sheppard AFB history to earn the Lt. Gen. Gordon A. Blake Aircraft Assist Award for aviation safety.

  • Fostering unity leads to PACE award for Turner

    Lt. Col. Jason Turner, 80th OSS commander, said leadership at the flight level was outstanding and very much engaged with getting the mission accomplished when he arrived here in 2016. But as with any machine, a little fine tuning has to take place to make sure it runs smoothly. The changes made under Turners leadership led the roughly 19-year Air Force veteran to be named a recipient of the 2017 Profession at Arms Center of Excellence and Air University Leadership Institute Leadership Impact Award.

    The airfield at Sheppard Air Force Base has supplanted the airfield at Eglin AFB, Florida, as the busiest joint-use airfield in the Air Force.
