5/23/2012 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, TEXAS -- An idea conceived and nourished by the Balfour Beatty Communities team at Sheppard AFB, is moving ahead with fanfare.

The community garden project--the first of its kind at Sheppard--had its official groundbreaking this week, with Col. Chowning and residents in attendance.
A team approach was taken during the construction phase of the project, with Turf Appeal donating their time to till the ground, Randy Hudson running the water line and many more joining Katrina Walker (BBC LifeWorks/Resident Specialist) and the rest of the BBC team to get the project off the ground.

The community garden currently consists of eight plots that are already reserved for planting by residents. Depending on the progress of the project over the next year, BBC hopes to expand the garden to make additional plots available.

"This is something we have been wanting to do for years and we are very grateful to everyone who donated their time and resources to this project," said Shannon Gonzalez, BBC neighborhood manager for Freedom Estates. "It is very exciting to see families spending time outdoors and participating in an activity that contributes to their health and wellbeing."

BBC also has limited gardening supplies available in their storage shed. If you have any questions about the community garden, please contact Katrina Walker, BBC LifeWorks/Resident Specialist.
