Sheppard Rock Fest: Full details Published April 30, 2018 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – Sheppard is set to host Grammy-nominated band Plain White T’s with special guest band We The Kings at the Town Center between the Airman’s Club and Mini-Mall here Friday, May 11. The event will kick-off at 6:45 p.m. as 82nd Training Wing and Army and Air Force Exchange Service leadership cut the ribbon to officially open the Town Center, one of the base’s newest outdoor facilities. "The Town Center will be a central location for Airmen in Training to relax and hangout during off-duty hours,” said Col. Scott Belanger, 82nd TRW vice commander. “I can't think of a better way to officially open the space than with a rock concert made possible by our Force Support Squadron and Air Force Entertainment." All valid DoD ID cardholders with base access are welcome to attend this free, family friendly event. The 82nd Security Forces Squadron will be conducting 100 percent ID card checks immediately before and throughout the event for all personnel entering Sheppard. The "Trusted Traveler" program will be suspended one hour prior to the scheduled start time and throughout the event. All those without a valid base access credential must be issued a visitor pass from either the Visitor Control Center at the Missile Road Gate or Main Gate. 82nd SFS recommends guests stop by the VCC with their sponsor up to 72 hours in advance to receive a pass. The Missile Road Gate will extend hours of operation until one hour after the event concludes to help mitigate traffic flow. The fest will include a kid’s area with games and bounce houses. Private organizations from Sheppard will have booths set up to sell pineapple smoothies, barbeque and other tasty treats. Avenues G and H will be closed between 5th and 8th Avenue, securing the event site from vehicular traffic from the Pitsenbarger Fitness Center to the Base Theater. Parking lots will be open near the dormitories surrounding the event site. Handicapped parking will be located at the Base Theater lot. Prohibited items for the fest include large bags, coolers, drugs, alcohol, drones, knives, guns or weapons of any kind. Airmen in training, or any other guest, should not bring a backpack to this event.
