    LOCAL COVID-19 UPDATES (April 23, 2020)

    Several agencies are modifying or suspending their hours and services during this unprecedented time. The following list will be updated and published at the end of each day as needed as new information is sent to the 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs Office.

    Pod system helps 80th FTW reduce risk of contracting, spreading COVID-19

    The 80th Flying Training Wing’s Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program has stepped up their operational game plan to keep personnel healthy while continuing its mission by operating within small units of individuals, or pods, as another measure to combat the spread of COVID-19 and limit potential exposure to the small groups instead of an entire class.

    Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program Class 20-04 has endured unique circumstances during their trek to earn their pilot wings, which began Feb. 26, 2019. Perhaps no other class in the nearly 40-year history of the 80th Flying Training Wing program has faced the traditional trials while also navigating the unknowns of game-changing innovation as well as a global pandemic.

    Sheppard 1 of 5 AETC bases to use new COVID-19 test kits

    Sheppard AFB is one of five bases in Air Education and Training Command selected to receive new BioFire UEA test kits, which will knock down the turnaround time for COVID-19 results to potentially minutes instead of days, according to AETC.

    With most cities across the country issuing stay-at-home orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people can only sit at home and wait it out. But others take matters into their own hands to try and make a difference.

    Sheppard grads make face covers to combat COVID-19

    Aircrew flight equipment and other aircraft maintenance career field graduates have put their sewing skills to work to create thousands of cloth face covers out of garments like old Battle Dress Uniforms and Airman Battle Uniforms to recently discarded Operational Camouflage Pattern uniforms. The race to provide another precautionary measure to the combat toolkit against COVID-19 began in earnest April 6, 2020, at the 361st Training Squadron schoolhouse.

    On April 2, 2020, 362nd Training Squadron Airmen in Training were sent to Sheppard AFB’s commissary, which was deemed mission essential, to help restock shelves.

    ENJJPT implements increased protective measures to keep training

    The threat of the spread of Coronavirus, or COVID-19, has added another challenging layer to the training regimen for student and instructor pilots of the 80th Flying Training Wing’s Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program. Those in ENJJPT are  hard at work developing new procedures to keep personnel healthy while continuing its mission of creating combat pilots for the alliance.

    COVID-19 can’t stop the military. It can try, but national security is 24/7 and basic military training, along with technical training at Sheppard AFB and other training installations, continues on its mission to provide trained Airmen to protect and defend the country.
